Different Hair Replacement Applications To Choose

By Alfie Flynn

Many people experience some amount of baldness or thinning in their lifetime. Not everyone wants to turn to using toupees or wigs, particularly because they often look and feel unreal. Actually, those things are not your only option. There are choices with hair replacement that are available for you to pick from.

One of the choices is in a topical solution. The solution can be in the form of a liquid or foam. Both forms are intended to be applied to the scalp with a light massaging touch. The ingredients in the solution and the massage help to stimulate the scalp for new growth and increase circulation that helps prevent additional loss. Be prepared to see results in about three to four months, but it could take more or less time based on whether you respond to the treatment.

Oral medications work in a similar manner as the topical ones, but from the inside. The oral treatments can help trigger new growth and prevent continual loss. They do not require handling solutions, which makes them a good choice for people who do not have a whole lot of time to spare. This method also takes about three months to begin showing results.

These two options are chemical based, which means there are pros and cons that may influence your decision to use them. The benefits are obvious and based on how the treatments are designed to work. On the other hand, the disadvantages are generally related to the side effects that may occur. Topical solutions commonly lead to redness or a burning at the application site. Oral treatments have a tendency to reduce sexual libido.

If you want to avoid using chemicals, you also have multiple surgical choices. One such choice is using plugs. The doctor implants individual shafts or small clumps of hair into the scalp. These shafts are usually donated. Individual implants are often chosen when the baldness is mild, while the small clumps are used for filling in larger areas. Implanted hairs will root and begin to grow naturally.

A second surgical option is known as a reduction. With this procedure, the hairless sections of scalp are removed. If the removed sections are small enough, the remaining scalp sections are pulled and sewn closed to cover the empty spots. For larger sections, donor pieces of scalp and hairs are grafted in place.

Weaves are an option for you if you do not want to rely on the chemicals or surgery. They can also be used as a temporary fix while you are waiting for the results to begin showing with other options. Many weaves are made from real strands and are attached to existing hairs. The weaves can stay in place for quite a few months.

Although there are multiple options available for hair replacement, it does not mean that every option will be right for every person. It is also possible that one method will not work, which narrows down your options. The best thing to do is thoroughly discuss all methods with your doctor. He or she can help you determine which one would be better for you based on your current rate of loss and baldness.
